VVS Laxman

In the ‘Breakfast with Champions’ show, Laxman revealed a story to Gaurav Kapoor when he had to come out to bat straight from the shower.

It was the day four of the third Test between the hosts South Africa and the visitors India at Cape Town in early January 2007. Laxman totally elaborated that story in this recent show.

Talking about that incident, Laxman said, “I used to feel fresh, so it was only before I went into bat. What happened was Wasim Jaffer and Viru opened and then Rahul was no.3 and Sachin was no.4, I was no.5. So previous evening, Sachin came out for 12 minutes and then they were bowled out. So actually it’s not allowed to bat for 12 minutes, so something like that…”

“The 4th umpire is supposed to come and tell on the morning of the match saying ‘Sachin you cannot go out to bat for 12 minutes’, but he didn’t inform. So, when I think Wasim got out, I went in top to take a quick shower. When Rahul went out the second wicket fell immediately. And then when Rahul went out to bat, the 4th umpire came and told to Sachin that you can’t go for next 10 minutes. So that means I’m supposed to go.

“By that time, Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh) came and told me ‘you have to go for batting’. Bhajji does prank, so I told him ‘I’ll take a shower and come’. Then Sachin had to come in and tell, he used to call me ‘Lachi’, Lachi you’ve to go out to bat, then I realised. It was hilarious because of this confusion, but I can tell you the dressing room was very tensed because it was embarrassing also, the captain of the team Rahul was waiting the next batsman is not coming.”

However, finally, Ganguly came to bat at that moment and handled that embarrassing situation.

As VVS Laxman is the mentor of the IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad, he is very close in touch of the team. Laxman revealed that his son Sarvajit and daughter Achinthya both are the fans of David Warner, the Australian cricketer who led Sunrisers Hyderabad to win the 2016 IPL.

Warner missed out the IPL 2018 after Cricket Australia (CA) suspended him from the cricket for one year for involving in the ball-tampering incident. As Laxman’s both kids understand Warner’s importance in Sunrisers Hyderabad, when they came to know through the newspaper that Warner would miss the entire IPL 2018, they were sad and started crying.
