Windies took the 1-0 lead after beating Bangladesh in the first T20I

Hosts Windies beat Bangladesh in the rain-interrupted first T20I of the three-match T20I series at Warner Park (Basseterre) on Tuesday. Bangladesh scored 143/9 in 20 overs while Windies needed to chase down 91 runs in 11 overs which they reached in 9.1 overs after losing only one wicket.

Windies decided to field first after winning the toss. Bangladesh openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar provided the poor start as both were dismissed for the ducks. Bangladesh team regularly lost their wickets while only Liton Das (24) and Mahmudullah (35) reached the 20-run mark.

In the result, Bangladesh only managed to score 143/9 at the end of the 20 overs. Windies pacer Kesrick Williams (4/28) got four wickets while Ashley Nurse (2/6) and Keemo Paul (2/24) picked up two wickets and Andre Russell (1/27) claimed another wicket.

Before the beginning of the second innings, the rain interrupted the game. As a result, Windies came out to chase the revised target of 91 runs in 11 overs. Though both the openers Andre Fletcher (7) and Evin Lewis (2) were dismissed early, Andre Russell (35*), Marlon Samuels (26) and Rovman Powell (15*) helped to chase that target comfortably. Windies chased down the target in 9.1 overs after losing three wickets as they won by 7 wickets with 11 balls to spare in DLS method. With this victory, Windies took the 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.

Bangladeshi left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman started very well with the 2-1-18-2 bowling figure, but it went in vain at the end. Rubel Hossain (1/13) took the other wicket in that innings.
