On the opening day of the Test match, Windies captain Jason Holder decided to bat first. The top-order batting again failed as none of them capitalized their starts. Among their top-five batsmen, only the opener Kieran Powell (22) and the no.3 batsman Shai Hope (36) reached the 20-run marks.

Once, the visitors were really struggling on 113/5. Roston Chase has rescued the team from that difficult situation with the back-to-back two good partnerships. At first, he had a 69-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Shane Dowrich, who played a crucial 30-run knock at that time.

At next, Chase put another good partnership with the skipper Jason Holder for the seventh wicket and this time it was the 104-run partnership, where both completed their half-centuries. The skipper Holder scored 52 runs off 92 balls with 6 fours before he was dismissed at the last moment of the day.

Meanwhile, Chase reached to his half-century in 80 balls and continued his innings till the stumps. At the stumps on the opening day, Chase remained unbeaten on 98 off 174 balls (7 fours and only six) and Devendra Bishoo (2*) is supporting him from the other end as Windies were on 295/7.
