Wriddhiman Saha Receives Guard of Honour In His Last Game For Bengal

Veteran wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha received an emotional guard of honour from his Bengal teammates during the Ranji Trophy clash against Punjab at Eden Gardens. Saha rejoined Bengal in November 2024 and had already announced that this would be his final domestic season.

However, in the wake of Bengal missing the knockout stage by a whisker, he ensured that this match would be the last one played. To salute his glorious cricketing career, the CAB conducted a farewell function, which created a touching farewell ceremony for the match.

Reflecting back over his journey, Saha, in a posting on Instagram a while ago had thanked the almighty saying: “After this beloved journey through cricket, I have this final season ahead of me. Honour to represent my beloved Bengal, for one final time. Can play only the Ranji. Wish this will be one for the ages for sure!!

He personally thanked the CAB president, Snehasish Ganguly; his teammates; coaches; and fans for support over the years following the ceremony.

However, the farewell match did not go as planned for the 39-year-old, as he was dismissed for a duck in the first innings by Punjab pacer Gurnoor Brar. Despite the disappointment, his legacy remains intact as one of Bengal’s finest wicketkeeper-batters.

Meanwhile, the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders had offered him a coaching role for the upcoming season. However, he politely declined, saying he was not mentally prepared to take on a coaching position. For now, he looks forward to taking a well-deserved break after an illustrious career, during which he donned the Indian jersey across formats and earned widespread respect in domestic and international cricket.
