The ongoing ICC World Test Championship final (WTC Final) between India and New Zealand hasn’t managed to impress the fansthus far thanks to persistent rain in Southampton. We have had almost 142 overs of play during the course of the first 4 days. While the opening day was washed out due to persistent rain, the second and third day saw the game get curtailed due to bad light.

Day 4 was nothing different from the first day as heavy and consistent rain ensured that not a single ball was bowled. That leaves us with just a couple of days (including a reserve day) to try and force a result and get a clear winner of the inaugural ICC World Test Championship Final.

The weather forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday looks pretty pleasant and even after considering all the practical possiblities, there no gurantee of the much-awaited game producing a result from either team to force a result in the match. According to the ICC press release, the winning team will receoving the prize money of $1.6 million while the runner-up will get a cash price of $800,000.

However, in case the game ends in a draw or tie, the finalists will split the prize money for the first and second places.

Winners prize money – $1.6 Million; Runners up – $800k

If draw or tie – 1.6m + 800k $ = $2.4 Million

So, each team will take home $1.2 Million.

Previously, the ICC Test Mace used to awarded to the team that finished at the no.1 position at the end of the annual cut-off date. However, ahead of the WTC final, the ICC announced that the Mace will now be handed to the winner of the Test Championship final.
