India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal on Tuesday said that although the India Under 19 team couldn’t win the final against Bangladesh at the recently concluded Under-19 World Cup in South Africa, it was a “great journey throughout the tournament” for him. The Priyam-Garg led side failed to win the fifth title for the Indian team as they lost to Bangladesh by a whisker on February 8.

Bangladesh won the rain-affected final while chasing India’s below-par 177 to win by three wickets through the DLS method, registering their maiden title win.

“As I’ve now had the time to look back upon all the hard work, perseverance and discipline that went into achieving a much awaited dream paid off when I walked onto the ground to represent my country for the all prestigious ICC World Cup final,” Yashasvi Jaiswal wrote on Instagram.

Jaiswal ended the U-19 World Cup on a high note where he smashed 88, 105*, 62, 57*, 29*, 59 and also finished the tournament as the highest run-getter.

“It was a great journey throughout the tournament even though we didn’t get the result we wanted. Humbled to receive the ‘Player of the Tournament’ and make my contribution towards getting to the finale. Upwards and onwards from here,” he further added.

Jaiswal will now be played for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) which is all set to start from March 29. However, he credited Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid for his game.

During a recent interview with TOI, he said, “That was because of Dravid (Rahul Dravid) sir and Sachin sir (Sachin Tendulkar). They always told me one thing – ‘talk with your bat, not with your mouth’. So, I always keep that advice on top of my list. And that’s why I stayed calm and didn’t respond to any of the sledge (in the final against Bangladesh). That’s I was smiling. I wanted to bat for long and put as many runs on the board. This was the only thing going in my mind at that point in time.”
