In a surprising move that could reshape Indian domestic cricket, Yashasvi Jaiswal has reportedly decided to shift his allegiance from Mumbai to Goa starting the 2025-26 season. The talented left-handed batter has officially requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), citing personal reasons for his decision.

“He has sought a NOC from us and has cited personal reasons for his move to Goa,” a source from MCA told The Indian Express.

This switch places Jaiswal among notable names like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, who also moved away from Mumbai in search of more opportunities. However, unlike them, Jaiswal was already a first-choice opener for Mumbai and had used the domestic platform to break into the Indian team.

According to The Times of India, he is even likely to captain Goa in the upcoming season, marking a major coup for the state’s cricketing future. Jaiswal’s cricketing journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Born in Uttar Pradesh, he moved to Mumbai as a child, living in tents and working odd jobs while pursuing his dream.

He made his First-Class debut for Mumbai in 2019 and, over five years, amassed 3,712 runs at a staggering average of 60.85. His last Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai saw him score 4 and 26 against Jammu and Kashmir before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

For Goa, securing a player of Jaiswal’s caliber is a game-changer. The team topped the Ranji Trophy Plate group last season, winning all six matches, but has historically lacked players who’ve gone on to represent India or play in the IPL.

Now India’s first-choice Test opener, Jaiswal is also pushing for a regular spot in ODIs and T20Is. He recently made his ODI debut against England and played all five Tests in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Currently representing Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025, his season has started slowly, with scores of 1, 29, and 4. However, if his past is any indication, a big knock might just be around the corner.
