Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh recently went on to reveal that the legendary cricketer, Sachin Tendulkar inspired him to make a comeback to international cricket after fighting a long battle against cancer. Right after his phenomenal performance in the 2011 World Cup, Yuvraj was diagnosed with cancer. A rare germ-cell tumor was located between his two lungs which was even there when he was playing the World Cup.
Yuvraj managed to make a comeback in the international comeback and played ODI cricket for 3 years, also managing to hit his highest score in the format – 150 vs England in Cuttack in 2017. He also played 35 T20Is during this period. Talking about the same during a recent chat with Sportskeeda, he explained, “I kept on speaking to Sachin, and he said, ‘Why do we play cricket? Yes, we want to play international but we play for the love of the sport. If you love the game, you want to play.”

Yuvraj revealed that Sachin told him if he loves the game, there is no option than to continue playing. Tendulkar emphasized that retirement is definitely his personal call and should not be anyone else’s call.
Recalling the same, “Sachin said, ‘If I was in the situation, I wouldn’t know what to do but if you love the game, you still play the game and decide when you want to retire. People should not decide that for you’.”
Yuvraj also featured the Indian team which played the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2014 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 but lost the games to Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively.

Explaining the same, Yuvraj said, “So I had some good chats with him (Sachin) and played 3-4 years of domestic cricket. I was in and out of the Indian team, played the T20 World Cup. I made a few comebacks but it was time to move on because my body was not the same after cancer. But I still managed to come back and score my highest ODI score.”
