While India has lost the T20I series against Sri Lanka, they got a big blow as the spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and allrounder Krishnappa Gowtham have reportedly tested positive for the coronavirus after Krunal Pandya. They both will stay back in Colombo whereas the rest of the India squad returns home as the series against Sri Lanka has concluded on Thursday night.

Notably, both Chahal and Gowtham were part of the eight India squad members who came in close contact with all-rounder Krunal Pandya who had been tested positive for the COVID-19 on July 27 following which the 2nd T20I was postponed by a day as well. While Krunal was shifted to isolation after being tested positive, other players – Hardik Pandya, Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Deepak Chahar and Ishan Kishan have also isolated themselves.

However, they all will stay in Colombo as per the guidelines of the Sri Lankan government. They will be in isolation for 10 days and have to clear fresh series of tests to boarding the flight for India as well.

“Yes, only Krunal will have to stay back in Sri Lanka for the time being due to the mandatory isolation period of one week,” a senior BCCI official told PTI. “After one week, if he has two negative RT-PCR reports, he will be allowed to fly back. Currently he is in the fourth day of his isolation. All others are free to depart as they have all tested negative.”

However, the eight cricketers along with Yuzvendra Chahal and K Gowtham are currently staying in the team hotel but separately. After Krunal Pandya’s positive test, India played with a rather inexperienced team for the second T20I which saw the debut of as many as four cricketers with net bowlers also added to the team but they couldn’t win the match. And, they also lost the third and the decider match as well and lost the series 1-2.
