While all attention back home is firmly on the high-stakes Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where Shubman Gill’s Team India is fighting to level the series against England, Yuzvendra Chahal is quietly making waves in England’s domestic circuit. The seasoned leg-spinner, often overlooked in the Test setup, has now registered his best-ever bowling figures in county cricket while playing for Northamptonshire in Division Two of the County Championship.

Taking on Derbyshire at the County Ground, Chahal turned heads with a remarkable spell, finishing with figures of 6 for 118 from 33.2 overs. Derbyshire, who opted to bat first, were bundled out for 377, thanks in large part to Chahal’s mid-innings demolition and late burst.

Derbyshire began steadily, losing opener Caleb Jewell early, before building a solid second-wicket stand of 48 between Luis Reece and Harry Came. Chahal then broke the partnership with a brilliant double-strike in the same over, removing both Came and Reece. He struck again in the very next over, leaving Derbyshire reeling at 89 for 5.

Despite a gritty century by Martin Andersson and resistance from the lower order, Chahal returned to clean up the tail, claiming the wickets of Zak Chappell, Ben Aitchison, and Blair Tickner to complete his six-wicket haul.
This performance was a strong comeback for the 34-year-old leggie after a tough outing in Northwood, where he went wicketless and conceded 175 runs in 43 overs against Middlesex. He also started the season slowly, going wicketless in the first innings against Kent but bouncing back with four wickets in the second innings.
