In the first ODI of the three-match series between India and West Indies at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahemdabad, the Indian limited-overs skipper, Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first citing the chances of a dew. The Indian bowling is rather inexperienced and without their regular attack, but Mohammed Siraj drew the first blood in the 3rd over of the innings with Washington Sundar and Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with a couple of wickets each.
Shai Hope was batting on 8 in 9 balls and he has smashed a couple of boundaries on consecutive deliveries of Mohammed Siraj but the latter got the wicket. Later in the game, in the 12th over, Washington Sundar got the wickets of Brandon King and Darren Bravo in the same over. Yuzvednra Chahal did the same in the first over of his spell.
In the 20th over, Yuzvednra Chahal came out to bowl for the first time in the game with the Windies struggling at 70/3 and he made the situation worse for the visitors. On this ball of the over, Chahal got the wicket of dangerous-looking Nicholas Pooran.
The on-field umpire wasn’t convinced of the LBW appeal, but Rohit Sharma took the DRS and India got their 4th wicket. After Pooran’s dismissal, Yuzvednra Chahal bowled a wrong’un and rattled the of-stump on the very first ball which Pollard was facing in the game. Pollard was playing for the leg break, providing Chahal a big gap to work with, and as a result, off stump was gone.
With the kind of celebration Indian players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli made after the dismissal, it felt like they had made a plan for with wicket and Chahal executed it well.
