Yuzvendra Chahal reminded everyone of his red-ball prowess with a sensational spell for Northamptonshire in the ongoing County Championship, reigniting memories of his impactful debut stint in English domestic cricket. On July 2, during Day 4 of the Division 2 clash against Kent in Canterbury, Chahal delivered a mesmerizing leg-spinner that cleaned up Ekansh Singh in style.

The delivery was a leg-spinner’s dream – it dipped deceptively from outside leg, gripped the surface, and spun sharply to rattle Singh’s middle and off stump. The Kent batter, who had committed to a textbook forward defensive push, was left dumbfounded as the ball spun past his bat and dislodged the bails. The dismissal instantly went viral, shared widely by the County Championship’s social media channels, with fans and pundits applauding Chahal’s artistry.

Having signed a fresh contract with Northamptonshire for both red and white-ball cricket till the end of the season, Chahal is looking to make every outing count. His previous County stint in 2023 was highly productive, picking up 19 wickets in just four first-class games, including a match-winning 9/99 against Derbyshire.

Though he went wicketless in the first innings at Canterbury, Chahal roared back in the second innings with figures of 4 for 51 in 30 overs. His efforts nearly clinched a win for Northants before Kent narrowly escaped with a draw at 160/8.

Currently out of India’s national selection radar, Chahal has been quietly building a compelling case for a return. His performances in the IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings, where he claimed 16 wickets and played a key role in their run to the final, showcased his continued relevance in limited-overs formats.

Chahal, now 34, remains eager to stay involved in top-level cricket. Speaking ahead of the County season, he said, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time here last year, and I’m excited to return. There’s a great atmosphere in the dressing room, and we’re aiming to build on last season’s success with more wins this year.”

With spells like the one in Canterbury, Chahal continues to prove he still has the magic touch.
