Former Indian fast bowler, Zaheer Khan has pointed out the similarities between the leadership skills of Rishabh Pant and his batting style, saying that it is always about two extremes when it comes to the wicketkeeper. Pant is currently serving as India’s stand-in skipper in their T20I series against South Africa. Initially, KL Rahul was supposed to be the skipper for the series. However, an injury ruled Rahul out of the five matches against the Proteas and the selectors decided to give the captaincy to Pant.
After a shaky start to his first assignment as the skipper of the national team, the 24-year-old has helped India to bounce back and level the series 2-2 heading into the final game on Sunday.

During a recent chat on Cricbuzz about Pant’s captaincy, Zaheer Khan felt that the Delhi wicketkeeper tries to think outside of the box and relies heavily on his instincts. He said that the 24-year-old will need to find that balance when it comes to making extreme decisions.
Zaheer Khan explained, “When he scores runs, people talk about him. When he doesn’t, people still talk about him. There’s a similar style of pattern in his captaincy. We have to give him time. He likes to think out of the box. He tries to follow his instincts far too much. He likes to take a lot of chances. He has to find that balance when he makes extreme decisions. It’s just like his batting.”
The Indian legend also showered praises on Pant’s attitude towards the game and said that the wicketkeeper would get better with experience.

Explaining the same, Zaheer Khan said, “One thing that stands out about him is that he is very serious about his cricket. That no one can question. He is very passionate about the game. He wants to do things at a rapid pace. With time, he will get what he wants because he knows where he is headed.”
