While India won the series in Australia in 2018, this time is expected to be a lot more challenging. Tim Paine’s Australia has Steve Smith and David Warner back and also with Marnus Labuschagne is in a form of his life, it will be easy for India. Moreover, the rise of Pat Cummins as the world’s best fast bowler is an absolute advantage for the hosts.

During a recent chat on a Youtube channel ‘Cricket Baaz’, Wasim Akram was heard saying, “I think Australia’s contemporary fast bowling unit is the best in the world. They have Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood. All depends on the pitches they [CA] make when India visit Australia [later this month]. When the Kookaburra ball gets old you have to think about how to keep runs down as the wickets are tough to come by.”

The Pakistan legendary bowler praised Team India, under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, and has stated that even though Australia will be favourites down under, India will be full of confidence. Akram also heaped praises on the Jasprit Bumrah-led pace attack that could cause a close contest between the two teams in Australia.

Describing the same, Akram said, “Now India’s fast bowling, too, is very good. They have Shami, Bumrah, and others who can clock upto speeds of 145-150 kmph. So, it will be a close contest but I would say Australia being in Australia would be favorites. However, Indian team have this new found confidence, as a team they have found this confidence. The way we used to take the ground in the 90s, Team India does the same now.”

According to Akram, India has turned into a nasty bunch under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. A similar thing was said by former England skipper, Nasser Husain about Sourav Ganguly’s leadership that had changed the face of the Indian team back then.

Akram jokingly said, “That’s because they believe in themselves. They believe in their hard work they are putting in. I would say ‘Indian players thode badmash ho gaye hai’ and that matters in their performance, it shows.”
