Former Team India pacer S Sreesanth has now looked towards Supreme Court for lifting his against the life ban which was imposed on him by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On Wednesday, Sreesanth’s lawyer mentioned his appeal before the Chief Justice of India, who has agreed to hear the case on February 5.

Sreesanth has challenged the Kerala High Court’s judgment in October wherein he was ordered to stay away from all cricketing actions conducted by the BCCI.

The fast bowler’s petition has asserted that the Single Judge bench of the High Court had rightly decided the case on merit and removed the ban in August but the Division panel later erred in holding that there could not be a judicial review of the BCCI’s decision.

Sreesanth emphasized the issue involved his fundamental rights as a sportsman and also his right to live with dignity and reputation and therefore, this was a case where judicial review of the BCCI’s decision was a certain possibility. He was slapped a life ban by the BCCI in 2015 after the Kerala pacer was charged with corruption during the 2013 IPL. Sreesanth was charged with match-fixing while playing for Rajasthan Royals.

In 2016, a special court in Delhi had banned him in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing case, following which he had asked the BCCI to lift the ban but to no avail. This had forced him to knock on the doors of the High Court.

The 34-year-old fast bowler, in this case, is also expected to urge the Supreme Court to reveal the names of all the 13 people indicted by the Mukul Mudgal panel for corruption, whose names have been kept confidential by the top court till date.
