VIrat Kohli becomes the fifth highest ODI run-scorer for India

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is looking in superb touch for last few years. In every series, he is showing his brilliant batting form and taking himself to a new higher level. Already, Kohli has scored two centuries in the first three ODIs of the ongoing six-match ODI series against the hosts South Africa. On Saturday in the fourth ODI, Kohli scored 75 runs and became the fifth highest ODI run-scorer for India.

In the fourth ODI of the six-match ODI series between the hosts South Africa and visitors India at Johannesburg, Indian captain Virat Kohli climbed up on the fifth position of the most ODI run-scorer table for India. Scoring 75 runs in that match, Kohli replaced former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin on the most ODI run-scorer table for India.

After that innings, Kohli has scored 9,423 ODI runs for India in 206 matches (198 innings). On the other hand, Mohammad Azharuddin had scored 9,378 ODI runs for India in his 334 matches (308 innings).

In India’s most ODI run-scorer list, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni are the only batsmen who are ahead of Virat Kohli.

The fourth ODI is also known as ‘Pink ODI’. Indian skipper decided to bat first after winning the toss. Indian opener Rohit Sharma (5 runs) was once again dismissed cheaply, but another opener Shikhar Dhawan managed to put a big partnership with the Indian skipper. The duo put a mammoth 158 runs partnership before Kohli was sent back to the pavilion. Dhawan further carried on his innings till his century and was dismissed for 109 runs.

Former Indian skipper MS Dhoni (42*) further carried on India’s innings till the end and took the team’s score to 289/7 at the end of 50 overs.

Visiting team India is leading the six-match ODI series by a 0-3 margin and the remaining matches are all the must-win games for the host South Africa.
