Zimbabwe is all set to host the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier from March 4 to 25, where ten teams will be eyeing to grab the two remaining spots in the marquee tournament World Cup 2019. The line-up for the qualifiers have been confirmed as Nepal along with UAE has qualified for the qualifying tournament.

Meanwhile, veteran batsman Brendon Taylor is very optimistic about Zimbabwe’s chances to qualify for the main tournament. Being the host, he feels Zimbabwe will get some advantage of playing in the home conditions.

Zimbabwe, along with Afghanistan, Ireland and West Indies, has got a second chance to qualify for the ICC’s pinnacle 50-over tournament after they finished in the bottom four of the ICC ODI Rankings at the September 30, 2017cut-off date.

Zimbabwe is the most successful team in the history of this qualifying tournament as they have won the tournament thrice in 1982, 1986 and 1990. Afterwards, they stopped participating in the tournament by receiving the full-nation status and got a direct qualification from 1996 onwards.

Their success ratio is insane in this tournament with 95.8 percent. Out of 24 matches, they have played, they registered 23 victories with one match ended in no-result. They still have to face their first defeat in the tournament.

And the fact that they will be the most experienced side with over 900 total ODI caps, they will fancy their chances when they will launch their campaign either against Nepal or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the Queens Sports Club on March 4.

Brendon Taylor is back in Zimbabwe’s ranks in last year after taking an untimely retirement from the international cricket signing a Kolpack deal with Nottinghamshire. He feels Zimbabwe will go through this qualification round to play in England.

“Hosting the tournament is a fantastic feeling. It is clear we have to qualify and playing at home will certainly help. It will mean everything the end goal is massive, we have no doubt in our mind we will qualify, there has to be a certain amount of respect for each team, but qualifying is our daily goal and that is what we are working towards,” said the 32-year-old.

Zimbabwe is presently busy in a five-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sharjah, where Afghanistan has taken the lead of 2-1 in the series.
