In an interview, Peshawar Zalmi captain Darren Sammy said that he is feeling proud to be a part of the unit that brought cricket back to Pakistan. He said, “I’m proud to be a part of the unit that brought cricket back to Pakistan. Once we get to the final stages and head to Pakistan, I know all the Zalmi fans will be there to support us in Karachi.”

The defending champion Peshawar Zalmi has not played good cricket in the ongoing season. Currently, they are in the fifth spot and facing a tough fight to qualify for the playoffs.

Speaking about his team’s performances in this season, Sammy said, “We always have to believe that we can turn things around, that’s how I should think as a skipper. Injuries have hampered our progress this season. But I can’t give that as an excuse as the caliber in the dressing room is good enough to enter the playoffs and if not win the title.”

When the two-time World T20 champion captain (for West Indies) was asked if the Peshawar Zalmi can retain their PSL trophy or not, Sammy said, “We have to take it one game at a time. Every game seems like a final to us right now. The key is to execute our plans and I believe we can do that.

In their seventh game of this season, which was against Islamabad United on Friday, Peshawar Zalmi suffered their fourth loss in this season and this time by 26 runs. In the post-match press conference, Sammy said that they have not played their best cricket yet in this season. The Caribbean all-rounder said, “We have put ourselves in this position.. this year we still have a chance but we have to take more responsibility when we are batting and bowling and at the end of the day if we do that and we don’t come victorious then we know their team was better than us, but so far we have not played our best cricket and that’s why we are number five.”
