Chennai Super Kings (CSK) marked the build-up to IPL 2026 in grand style, hosting their much-anticipated ‘Roar 2026’ event at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The five-time champions blended nostalgia with celebration, bringing together franchise legends and current stars in a memorable fan engagement evening ahead of the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League.

The highlight of the event was CSK introducing its first-ever Hall of Fame, with franchise icons Suresh Raina and Matthew Hayden being honoured for their immense contributions. Raina, fondly called ‘Chinna Thala’ by fans, remains one of the pillars of CSK’s legacy. Representing the franchise from 2008 to 2021, he played a vital role in four IPL title-winning campaigns and continues to be the team’s highest run-scorer with 5,529 runs, including two centuries and 38 fifties.

Hayden, meanwhile, was instrumental in CSK’s early success. The former Australian opener featured between 2008 and 2010 and was part of the title-winning squad in 2010. His standout 2009 season, where he scored 572 runs, saw him become CSK’s first-ever Orange Cap winner. In total, Hayden amassed 1,117 runs for the franchise, leaving a lasting impact during his stint.

 

The celebration also saw the presence of several former CSK greats, including Muttiah Muralitharan, Ambati Rayudu, Michael Hussey and others, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere at Chepauk.

In a special moment, MS Dhoni honoured players like Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube and U-19 captain Ayush Mhatre with commemorative plaques, celebrating their recent achievements.

Looking ahead, CSK, led by Ruturaj Gaikwad, will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against the Rajasthan Royals on March 30 in Guwahati. With a challenging schedule lined up early in the season, the Men in Yellow will aim to carry the momentum from this emotional and energising start into their title quest.
