At just 23, Tilak Varma delivered a career-defining performance, scripting his name into IPL history with a stunning century for Mumbai Indians against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, MI posted a competitive 199/5, with Tilak anchoring the innings through a breathtaking unbeaten 101 off just 45 balls. His knock, laced with eight fours and seven sixes, came at a blistering strike rate of 224.44 and showcased both composure and controlled aggression.

What made the innings even more special was his ability to shift gears at the right time. After a steady start, Tilak accelerated brilliantly, especially in the death overs. He took on Prasidh Krishna in the final over, smashing 20 runs with a mix of boundaries and towering sixes, turning a good total into a formidable one. Despite being on the receiving end, Kagiso Rabada acknowledged the brilliance of Tilak’s knock. Rabada also reflected on his own approach, emphasising the importance of discipline with the new ball and sticking to basics like line and length. While he managed to make early inroads, dismissing MI’s top-order, even he struggled to contain Tilak once the youngster found his rhythm.
