Virat Kohli etched his name deeper into cricket history on Wednesday, May 13, by becoming the first Indian batter to complete 14,000 runs in T20 cricket. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru superstar achieved the landmark during RCB’s IPL 2026 clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.

Coming into the high-pressure chase of 193, Kohli needed 78 runs to reach the milestone. The veteran batter got there in style, punching a boundary off Sunil Narine in the 16th over to bring up the historic mark. The achievement further strengthened Kohli’s reputation as one of the greatest T20 batters of all time.
The 37-year-old now leads the chart among Indian run-scorers in T20 cricket by a significant margin. Virat Kohli has crossed 14,000 runs in just 409 innings, showcasing the remarkable consistency he has maintained across franchise and international cricket for over a decade.

The landmark innings also came at an important moment for Virat Kohli personally. The RCB icon had entered the match under pressure after back-to-back ducks against Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. Against KKR, he ensured there would be no hat-trick of ducks, getting off the mark with a single toward square leg off Anukul Roy on the final ball of the opening over.
Kohli’s animated celebration after scoring that first run quickly went viral on social media, reflecting both relief and humour after a rare lean patch.

Earlier in the evening, Virat Kohli had already scripted another major record by becoming the most-capped player in IPL history. The match against KKR marked his 279th IPL appearance, taking him past MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who were tied on 278 matches. Even after all these years, Kohli continues to redefine consistency, longevity, and greatness in T20 cricket.
