A touching moment between Sanju Samson and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi stole the spotlight during Team India’s training session ahead of the second T20I against England in Manchester. The experienced wicketkeeper-batter was seen sharing a conversation with the teenage sensation, placing an arm around his shoulders in a gesture that reflected the strong bond the two have built over the past year.

The duo previously shared a dressing room at the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, where Sooryavanshi emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest stars. Interestingly, it was Samson’s injury during the season that opened the door for the young left-hander to break into the playing XI.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi seized the opportunity with both hands, delivering a series of explosive performances under Samson’s captaincy and establishing himself as one of Indian cricket’s most exciting prospects.

Now reunited in the national setup, the two players continue to share a close relationship despite competing for spots in India’s top order. Samson remains the management’s preferred opening option, while Sooryavanshi is still waiting for his international debut after being included in the squads for the Ireland and England series.

The five-match T20I series against England remains level at 0-0 after the opening encounter at Durham was abandoned due to rain following India’s innings. While fans are eagerly hoping to see Sooryavanshi receive his maiden India cap, the team management has indicated that patience will be required.

India bowling coach Morne Morkel recently stressed the importance of backing the players who helped the team win the T20 World Cup. According to Morkel, the management is focused on maintaining stability while gradually integrating young talents into the squad.

Calls for Sooryavanshi’s inclusion have grown louder in recent weeks, particularly with Samson enduring a difficult run of form. The Kerala batter has managed only six runs across his last three T20I innings, leading to increased debate over whether the 15-year-old prodigy should be given an opportunity. For now, however, India appear committed to supporting their experienced campaigners while carefully planning Sooryavanshi’s long-awaited debut.
