Harshit Rana turned the momentum in India’s favour with a sensational double strike during the third T20I against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, on Tuesday, July 7. The young fast bowler dismissed Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton off successive deliveries, putting England under pressure after a promising start to their innings.

England were cruising after being asked to bat first by India captain Shreyas Iyer when Harshit was introduced into the attack in the 12th over. After conceding a boundary on the fourth delivery, the pacer responded in style. He bowled a well-directed length ball on middle and leg, tempting Jacob Bethell into an ambitious slog.
The left-hander failed to time the shot, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi sprinted in from deep midwicket to complete a composed catch. Bethell departed after scoring 13 runs from just nine balls. Harshit Rana struck again on the very next delivery to leave England reeling.

Tom Banton attempted an upper-cut against a short ball outside off stump but only managed to find Varun Chakaravarthy in the deep. Banton returned to the pavilion for a first-ball duck, handing Harshit two wickets in two balls and briefly raising hopes of a hat-trick.

The Delhi pacer returned to bowl the 18th over with a chance to complete the rare feat. However, Sam Curran spoiled the opportunity by smashing the first delivery of the over for a boundary. Harshit eventually finished with figures of 2/40 from his four overs, making a valuable contribution with the ball despite England’s aggressive batting.
Interestingly, Harshit Rana has not been included in India’s squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The selectors have opted for a fresh-looking pace attack featuring Prince Yadav, Mayank Yadav, Yash Thakur, and Ashok Sharma.

Despite missing out on the Zimbabwe tour, Harshit has continued to impress whenever given an opportunity. After returning from injury, he claimed four wickets in the Ireland T20I series and has added more breakthroughs against England, further strengthening his case for future selections with consistent performances in international cricket.
