India fast bowler Prasidh Krishna finally gave the visitors a much-needed breakthrough by dismissing England opener Jacob Bethell after a dominant 192-run opening partnership in the third and final ODI at Lord’s on Sunday, July 19. England’s opening pair of Bethell and Ben Duckett put India’s bowling attack under immense pressure after captain Harry Brook elected to bat first.

The duo negotiated the new ball with ease before accelerating through the middle overs, leaving the visitors searching for answers on a batting-friendly surface.

The breakthrough eventually arrived on the very first delivery of the 31st over. Prasidh Krishna bowled a back-of-a-length delivery outside off stump, and Bethell attempted to pull it towards deep square leg. However, he failed to get the desired elevation, allowing Rohit Sharma to complete a straightforward catch in the deep.

Bethell fell agonizingly short of what would have been his second ODI century. The left-handed batter produced a superb innings of 91 from 93 deliveries, striking 11 boundaries and two sixes while laying the perfect foundation for England’s innings.

England had made one change to their playing XI, bringing in Josh Tongue in place of Saqib Mahmood. India, meanwhile, introduced KL Rahul, Prince Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh, replacing Shivam Dube, Washington Sundar, and the injured Jasprit Bumrah.

The hosts enjoyed a dream start, reaching 58 without loss during the powerplay before tightening their grip on the contest. Bethell completed his half-century in just 51 balls during the 16th over, while Duckett reached his fifty off 64 deliveries six overs later. Their outstanding partnership carried England to 192/0 after 30 overs before Krishna finally ended the stand.

Despite the breakthrough, England maintained control of the contest and finished with a commanding 387/3 in their allotted 50 overs. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 74 off 48 balls, while Jos Buttler provided a late flourish with an explosive 41* from just 13 deliveries. With the three-match ODI series locked at 1-1, the winner at Lord’s will secure the series 2-1, making India’s chase one of their biggest tests of the tour.
