The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed the schedule for the fifth edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). WPL 2027 will be played from January 14 to February 7, while the mini-auction is scheduled to take place on October 28 in Kochi. The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will enter the new season looking to build on their successful 2026 campaign.
RCB secured their second WPL title after producing a memorable run chase against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the final. Before the auction, all five franchises will have to finalise their retained and released players. The deadline for submitting those lists has been set for September 28, giving teams exactly one month to assess their squads and make decisions before the Kochi auction.

The BCCI also highlighted the league’s role in providing a platform for leading international players while helping emerging Indian cricketers gain exposure at the highest level. The timing of the 2027 season will be particularly interesting after a busy year for women’s T20 cricket.

The T20 World Cup and Women’s Asia Cup 2026 have provided several players with opportunities to showcase their skills. WPL franchises could now look to strengthen their squads by targeting emerging performers from these tournaments.
The WPL 2027 final is scheduled for February 7, only a week before the expected start of the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy. The tournament, initially planned for Sri Lanka, is now expected to be hosted by India, with Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara reportedly set to stage the six-team competition.

The WPL 2027 venues have not yet been officially confirmed. However, reports suggest Mumbai and Vadodara could again feature on the schedule. The newly inaugurated Varanasi International Cricket Stadium is also expected to host some matches, potentially adding another venue to the WPL’s growing footprint.
