Rohit Sharma has opened up about the nervousness he experienced before Test matches, admitting that the pressure of playing his favourite format often kept him awake at night. The former India captain also revealed how his mother’s homemade banana wafers became his comfort food during those sleepless hours.

Sharma shared the revelation on the latest episode of Family Full House, which premiered on September 19 on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV. During the show, he spoke about several aspects of his cricket career and personal life.
“Haan, hoti toh hai. Main jhooth nahi bolunga, lekin jab bhi main Test match khelta tha, andar bahut nervousness hoti thi. Toh Test match ke time khaas karke, kyunki yeh mera favourite format tha, Test match khelna,” Rohit Sharma said.
The former India skipper explained that Test cricket brought a different level of pressure because of the unique challenges involved in the longest format. Although he acknowledged that every format presents its own difficulties, the significance of Test matches made him particularly nervous.

“Kyunki Test match khelna aasaan format nahi hai. Koi bhi format aasaan nahi hota, lekin Test match ke apne alag-alag challenges hote the. Toh Test match ke liye main hamesha nervous rehta tha aur nervousness mein mujhe neend nahi aati thi, toh raat bhar main jaaga rehta tha,” he added.
With sleepless nights becoming part of his pre-Test routine, Sharma found a simple way to deal with the restlessness. He would carry his favourite comfort food with him, giving him something familiar to turn to whenever he felt hungry during the night.

“Toh aap jaage rehte ho toh kuch na kuch khaane ka mann karta tha. Toh main hamesha mere saath mera comfort food rakhta tha, jo meri mummy hamesha bana ke deti thi, woh tha banana wafers,” Rohit Sharma revealed.
The banana wafers were prepared at home by his mother, Purnima Sharma, using her own method. According to Rohit, they were not deep-fried. Instead, his mother baked them, allowing him to enjoy the homemade snack whenever he needed it during those long nights.

His story also highlights how simple comforts from home, such as his mother’s homemade banana wafers, helped him manage the nerves and uncertainty that came with playing his favourite format.
