Virat Kohli has been in impressive form in ODI cricket over the past year, continuing to strengthen his reputation as one of India’s most dependable batters in the format. The right-handed batter has scored four centuries and five fifties in his last 13 ODIs, underlining his consistency ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Kohli is now preparing for what is expected to be his final ODI World Cup campaign for India. The 2027 edition of the 50-over tournament is scheduled to be hosted across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with matches set to be played at 12 venues. With the ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies providing part of India’s preparations, Kohli has opened up about his ambitions for next year’s global tournament.
In a video shared by Star Sports on Monday, Virat Kohli was asked about his personal target for the 2027 World Cup. The former India captain revealed that his biggest dream is to produce a match-winning performance in the final, particularly while chasing a challenging target. “My dream is to play a match-winning finishing knock in the finals, like chasing a score. That’s the ideal scenario,” Kohli said.

However, the 37-year-old made it clear that individual glory would come second to India’s ultimate objective of winning the World Cup. He said he would be equally satisfied if India lifted the trophy, even if he did not get the opportunity to finish the final himself.

Virat Kohli acknowledged that the 2027 tournament could be his last World Cup appearance for India and stressed that winning the title remains his primary goal. “It’s the last time you’re getting to play a World Cup, so just getting that trophy is the most important thing,” Kohli said.
The veteran batter also explained what continues to motivate him at the highest level. He said the prospect of being in the middle during a difficult situation and helping India recover is what fuels his competitive instincts.

Kohli has already featured in two ODI World Cup finals for India. He scored 35 runs in the 2011 final against Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, while he made 54 in India’s 2023 final against Australia. With another World Cup campaign approaching, Kohli’s focus remains on contributing to India’s pursuit of another ODI World Cup title.
