During the first Qualifier of the 11th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Mumbai, the bowlers of Chennai Super Kings played a substantial role in restricting Sunrisers Hyderabad to 139-7 in their allotted quota of 20 overs.

After Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of Chennai Super Kings, won the toss and put Sunrisers Hyderabad in to bat, Chennai’s bowlers stood tall on the big stage. On the first delivery of the match, Deepak Chahar bowled Shikhar Dhawan (0) to set things up for others to follow.

Sreevats Goswami (12) and Kane Williamson (24) were the other two batsmen who were dismissed in the powerplay. In the first six overs, Sunrisers were reduced to 47-3. The run rate was not a concern but the number in the wickets column was. Within the powerplay, Sunrisers’ inconsistent middle-order was in the middle.

Dhoni introduced Bravo as the second-change bowler in the first over after the powerplay. Bravo dismissed Shakib Al Hasan (12) in his first over to further dent Hyderabad’s batting line-up. At the halfway mark, the Sunrisers were reeling at 64-4.

With an end to Manish Pandey’s (8) lame innings in the 12th over, Hyderabad had lost half its side. Ravindra Jadeja (4-0-13-1) dried up runs from one end which also affected the opposition’s innings. Had there not been a 51-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Carlos Brathwaite and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Sunrisers would have struggled.

With bowling figures of 4-0-25-2, Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the bowlers for the Super Kings. Watch some Twitter reactions on their bowling performance:
