The ongoing second Test of the three-match Test series between the hosts Sri Lanka and the visitors England at Kandy has presented a tight game, till the end of the fourth day. Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is totally enjoying the game where the batsmen and bowlers have produced very balanced cricket.

Starting the Test with the 1-0 lead in this series, the English Test skipper Joe Root decided to bat first after winning the toss. Jos Buttler’s 63 runs knock and Sam Curran brilliant 64 runs knock helped England to score 290 runs before getting all-out. Among the Sri Lankan bowlers, Dilruwan Perera (4/61) picked up four wickets and Malinda Pushpakumara (3/89) bagged three wickets.

In reply, Sri Lanka managed to score 336 runs and earned an important 46-run lead at the end of first innings fights. Opener Dimuth Karunaratne (63) and the no.4 batsman Dhananjaya de Silva (59) played crucial knocks but the lower middle-order batsman Roshen Silva helped the hosts to earn a crucial lead as Roshen scored 85 off 174 balls. Jack Leach (3/70) and Adil Rashid (3/75) were the top English bowlers by picking up three wickets each.

England skipper Joe Root’s brilliant century knock helped England to score a good total in the third innings of the game. Root scored 124 off 146 balls, while the opener Rory Burns (59) and the lower-order batsman Ben Foakes (65*) also played some crucial knocks in that innings as England managed to score 346 before they were bundled out. Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dananjaya (6/115) picked up six wickets in that innings.

Chasing down the 301 runs target, Sri Lanka had a poor start as they went down to 26/3. However, the opener Dimuth Karunaratne and the no.5 batsman Angelo Mathews helped the side to recover from that situation. After Karunaratne was dismissed on 57 runs, Roshen Silva played a 37-run knock. Just before the stumps on day 4, Sri Lanka lost Mathews on 88 runs and the new batsman Dilruwan Perera on just 2 runs that has put the hosts under huge pressure. At the stumps on day four, Sri Lanka was batting on 226/7 with the unbeaten batsman Niroshan Dickwella (27 runs) while they still have to score 75 runs to win this game and only three wickets in hands. Among the English bowlers, Jack Leach (4/73) has again become successful by picking up four wickets.
