Delhi team management opted to give their team a new look in this IPL and changed the name of their franchise. And they instantly passed the first hurdle as they registered a victory in their campaign opener after seven years. They thrashed Mumbai Indians by 37 runs at Wankhede Stadium and are off to a winning start.

Earlier, Mumbai won the toss and invited Delhi Capitals to bat first. On a batting friendly surface, Delhi scored 213/6 in 20 overs riding on Rishabh Pant’s 27-ball 78 runs. The mountainous score turned out too much for Mumbai to chase down.

Rishabh Pant (DC)

Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant set Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on fire with some big hits. He came to bat after Colin Ingram’s wicket and accelerate the innings immediately. The stylish batsman scored 78 runs in 27 balls, where he hit seven towering sixes and as many fours. It was Pant’s flamboyant innings which took Delhi Capitals’ total to 213/6 in 20 overs.

Ishant Sharma (DC)

Veteran Indian pacer was in a good rhythm when Mumbai’s chase began. Ishant picked the most crucial wicket of Rohit Sharma in his second over before dismissing Quinton de Kock in the next one. Ishant ended his dry spell of wickets and took his first wicket since IPL 2016. In between, he has bowled 25 overs so far but he couldn’t taste success even once.

Kiwi pacer was the pick of the Mumbai bowlers

Mitchell McClenaghan (MI)

Mitchell McClenaghan was the pick of the bowler in Mumbai’s lineup and picked three wickets at crucial junctures. He provided Mumbai a perfect start and found Prithvi Shaw’s wicket in his first over. In the next over, he dismissed Delhi’s skipper Shreyas Iyer for 16. His third victim was Keemo Paul, who was making his Indian Premier League debut. McClenaghan finished his spell for 3/40.
