India opener Rohit Sharma has led the Mumbai Indians (MI) successfully to their fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) title on a nail-biting last-ball thriller against Chennai Super Kings on May 12. After that, many of the fans want him to lead the India team as well. However, Rohit has led India successfully on a few occasions, one of them was the Asia Cup last year. He has a pretty good track record as the captain in both the formats.
However, former India player Gautam Gambhir has expressed his thought and said that Rohit Sharma would be the next captain after Virat Kohli.
“I think he is probably right up there. He has won four IPL trophies and if you talk about IPL cricket he is the most successful captain. He captained the team in Asia Cup and won it so not only as an option he is probably next to Virat Kohli.”

However, Gautam Gambhir is one of the four players who successfully captained India in six ODIs in 2010-11 and won all the games. Recently he criticised Virat Kohli for his poor show in the recently concluded IPL for RCB. He further said that Kohli is lucky as Bangalore franchise has kept him the captain despite the poor show.
Rohit Sharma has led India on 10 One Day Internationals and won eight matches with a success percentage of 80. On the other hand, Virat Kohli has won 49 of 65 matches as a captain with a win percentage of nearly 78. Rohit Sharma is successful in the shortest format of the game as well. He led India successfully in 12 games out 15 while Kohli won 12 out of 22 games. It would be interesting who would be the captain after Virat Kohli.
