India international and CSK pacer Deepak Chahar had been out of action after he aggravated his back injury in December last year. He was targetting a return to competitive cricket through IPL. However,  with IPL postponed due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus, it has worked in the favor of Chahar giving him more time to recover from the injury and get back to match fitness. Deepak Chahar is also taking the free time in this lockdown to learn a few new tricks and expressed his desire to start bowling again.

In an interview with a CSK host, the 27-year-old said, “I am looking forward to bowling again. For now, the idea is to stay fit. When things are not in your control, there is little you can do. So, I focus on what I can do during that time. I am trying to learn new things, focus on my fitness – as you know I was injured and getting back. This gives me more time to recover.”

Deepak Chahar had an excellent outing against Bangladesh in December last year as he set a record for the best bowling figures in a T 20 International game. The fast bowler scalped 6 wickets while conceding only 7 runs in the T-20 game, which included a hattrick.  The fast bowler has 19 international wickets to his name after playing 3 One Day Internationals (ODI) and 10 T-2oI matches for the Indian National Cricket Team.

Chahar, who plays for the MS Dhoni-led  Chennai Super Kings reveals that if IPL had begun on its original schedule, he would have missed a few initial matches due to lack of match fitness. “Had the IPL season started on time, I would have missed the first few matches,” he said.

The fast bowler reveals how he is adjusting to the n3 week national wide lockdown and using this opportunity to learn something new and stay healthy along with developing a positive mindset.

“It is obviously a difficult time for all of us, everything coming to a standstill. Loss of business and jobs, especially for daily wage workers. Be safe, learn something new now that you have time. Stay positive, stay in the time,” he said.
