Sunrisers Hyderabad’s explosive opener Abhishek Sharma once again lit up the IPL stage on Friday, May 23, as he unleashed a ferocious batting display against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Known for his aggressive intent, Abhishek added an unusual entry to his highlight reel by shattering the windshield of a parked car with a towering six.

Over the years, the IPL has seen plenty of mammoth sixes clearing boundaries and rooftops, but Abhishek’s strike was unique. The left-hander, facing Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second over, pulled a short-of-length delivery with brute power over deep midwicket.

The ball soared into the stands and landed squarely on the windshield of a Tata car parked as part of the tournament’s promotional display, cracking the glass and drawing gasps from the crowd. Tata, an IPL sponsor since 2019, often showcases its new models during matches, but this was perhaps the first time one of them bore the brunt of a six.

At the time of the incident, Sunrisers were cruising at 71/2 after the powerplay. Abhishek, who looked in sublime touch, had already hammered 34 off just 17 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Along with Travis Head, he gave SRH a flying start, adding 54 runs in the first four overs. However, both openers fell in quick succession—Abhishek to Lungi Ngidi and Head to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, halting Hyderabad’s momentum briefly.

With Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen at the crease, SRH will be banking on the duo to capitalise on the brisk start and post a formidable total. While Sharma’s innings ended early, the impact he left—both on the scoreboard and on the unfortunate car, will be remembered for a long time.
