Mohammed Siraj’s stunning six-wicket haul at Edgbaston in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy didn’t just earn him applause—it sparked one of the most heartwarming moments of the match, thanks to his teammate Arshdeep Singh. In a delightful interruption during Siraj’s post-day interview with the BCCI, Arshdeep cheekily updated Siraj’s now-iconic 2024 World Cup dialogue.

“Bhai, dialogue change,” Arshdeep Singh grinned. “I only believe in myself and Jassi bhai!” A small change in words, but a big moment of camaraderie. Siraj’s original line—“I only believe on Jassi bhai, because game-changer player he is”—came during an emotional interview after India’s T20 World Cup triumph against South Africa.

Although Mohammed Siraj didn’t play in the final, his heartfelt praise for Jasprit Bumrah, who turned the game on its head, left cricket fans across the globe moved.

This time, however, Siraj stepped out from Bumrah’s shadow and took centre stage himself. With Bumrah rested for the Edgbaston Test, Siraj led the Indian pace attack with maturity and venom. His 6 for 70 dismantled England and helped India secure a crucial 180-run first-innings lead. The hosts were bowled out for 407 in reply to India’s 587.

Interestingly, Siraj’s performances without Bumrah in the XI reveal a telling pattern. While playing with Bumrah, he averages 33.82 across 33 Tests. But in Bumrah’s absence, he’s risen to the occasion—snaring 39 wickets in just 15 Tests at a superb average of 25.20. Edgbaston marked the third time he’s claimed a five-wicket haul when Bumrah wasn’t playing.

The numbers support what Siraj himself believes. “I love the responsibility. My aim was not to give up runs, bowl with as much control as possible and build pressure from my end,” he said, embracing his growing stature in the team.

At stumps on Day 3, India sit comfortably ahead, leading by 244 runs. But beyond the numbers, moments like these between Siraj and Arshdeep are what truly show the spirit in India’s camp—one of belief, banter, and brotherhood.
