Ben Stokes has brought his fiery intensity to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and India’s young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has found himself frequently in the English skipper’s crosshairs. On Day 3 of the second Test at Edgbaston, the tension escalated when Stokes reacted angrily to a Decision Review System (DRS) call that he believed was taken after the 15-second timer had expired.

Jaiswal was trapped LBW by Josh Tongue for 28 in the eighth over. While the decision looked fairly straightforward, the left-hander briefly consulted KL Rahul before signaling for a review. However, the timer had just run out. Despite that, the on-field umpires allowed the review to go through, prompting an animated Stokes to charge in from the field, shouting and gesturing at the officials in protest.

The England captain also exchanged a few words with Rahul, adding more fuel to the ongoing tension. Ultimately, the ball-tracking confirmed three reds, and Jaiswal was sent back, with India losing a review in the process.
Umpires at fault.. Stokes was rightly so furious, Ump shouldn’t have allowed the Review. Also, KL should’ve asked Jaiswal to not review, it was a clear decision pic.twitter.com/7yMnZ3zXTa

Ben Stokes was fully justified, in objecting to the umpire granting Jaiswal the DRS after the 15 seconds ran out. Rules are sacrosanct. In the future, ICC must mandate a buzzer when time runs out. Buzzer goes, you’re done. Both for batting & fielding sides. pic.twitter.com/yLGEPUzZq1

This wasn’t the first heated exchange between Stokes and Jaiswal in the match. In the first innings, Stokes appeared to be deliberately provoking the young opener with some verbal exchanges, and it may have worked—Jaiswal fell to a loose shot outside off stump.

Still, India remain well ahead in the contest. After piling up 587 in their first innings and bowling England out for 407, they closed Day 3 with a lead of 244.
Stokes didn’t have a great outing himself either—he was dismissed for a golden duck by Mohammed Siraj, who celebrated in style, stoking the competitive fire even further. With the series still young, this simmering rivalry is likely far from over.
