Indian team management should’ve chosen their best spinners against Austalia as the wickets will be spin friendly in India. Former India skipper Mohammad Azharuddin feels that resting R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja for Sri Lanka was fine but not against the Aussies.
In a recent conversation with TOI, Azhar said, “I can understand if both Ashwin and Jadeja are rested for the Sri Lankan series. But when India is playing against a team like Australia, your best spinners should be used. After all, you are playing at home and on wickets that suit them. They should have been given a chance to play the Australian series.”
Azharuddin said he would like to have Ashwin in the team against Australia, he said, “It’s good that Ashwin is playing in the County championship. The County stint will do a world of good to his confidence. But if I were a captain, I would definitely make Ashwin and Jadeja play in the Australia series at home.”
On Sunday, Indian selectors named the squad for the first 3 ODIs of the 5-match series against Australia which begins in Chennai on September 17. BCCI stated that both Ashwin and Jadeja were rested from the squad.
