Chennai Super Kings’ young batter Dewald Brevis continued to show promise with the bat in their ongoing IPL 2025 clash against Punjab Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After playing a standout innings in the previous game, the South African once again looked in good touch, stepping in under pressure with CSK struggling at 48 for 3.

Coming in at No. 4, Brevis displayed his natural attacking flair, counterpunching effectively against both pace and spin. Partnering with Sam Curran, he steadied the innings and kept the scoreboard ticking. His footwork was confident, and his strokeplay fluent, as he began rebuilding the innings with authority.

However, just when he looked set for a substantial knock, Dewald Brevis threw it away with a loose shot. Facing Azmatullah Omarzai, he misjudged a length ball on off-stump. With no foot movement and poor balance, he attempted a cross-batted slog with minimal control. The angled bat didn’t offer the needed leverage, and he completely missed the ball.

Omarzai, who bowled with great discipline, got his reward as the delivery went on to rattle the off-stump. It was a timely breakthrough for Punjab Kings, halting the partnership that was starting to rebuild CSK’s innings. Brevis walked back visibly frustrated, knowing he had let a good start go to waste.

While the Proteas youngster has been a bright spark in a challenging season for CSK, his inability to convert starts into big scores continues to be a concern. With CSK still reeling near the bottom of the points table, they’ll be hoping Brevis can find the consistency they desperately need in the coming games, especially as playoff hopes hang by a thread.
