The International Cricket Council (ICC) is planning to take control over the T20 leagues like IPL around the globe. The main aim behind this step would be to maintain uniformity in the governing policy of such leagues. ICC COO Iain Higgins is expected to head this committee along with Media Rights Head Aarti Singh Dabas.

There are several T20 leagues growing around the globe. At the moment, every cricket playing nation has their own separate T20 league, where players from all country participate. At the same time, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has launched a new league called ‘The Hundred’.

Thus, ICC has decided to take a step and they will be the sole policymaker for every international cricket board that has a T20 league going on or aspires to launch one in the future. It will also have the authority to modify the format and players’ policy.

Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) has rejected this decision of ICC and they are not willing to even discuss it.

“The IPL is an Indian domestic tournament and just the way how the ICC has no locus stand in a tournament like the Ranji Trophy, it will have no say in the IPL as well,” the BCCI mentioned according to the Times of India (TOI).

A source revealed ICC was looking to get into the richest T20 league of the world. Their main aim was not to focus on other T20 league but the Indian Premier League. While BCCI has rejected this proposal of ICC already, cricket boards of Australia and West Indies are yet to make a word over this matter.

Cricket Australia is yet to say a word over ICC’s step

“Big Bash too is Cricket Australia’s domestic tournament, just like the Sheffield Shield. But the thing is, one of their players takes a break right in the middle of a Big Bash season and decides to play the Bangladesh Premier League for a handsome salary and Cricket Australia can’t do anything about it. It’s not the same in the IPL. When the IPL is played, cricket globally comes to a standstill,” the source was quoted as saying.
