When 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi scripted history with a stunning century in the IPL, it wasn’t just the cricketing world that took notice. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar quickly joined the chorus of admirers, announcing a cash prize of ₹10 lakh for the young prodigy who has become the pride of Samastipur and an inspiration for millions.

Vaibhav’s whirlwind 101 off just 38 balls, including 11 towering sixes, helped Rajasthan Royals pull off a clinical chase of 210 against Gujarat Titans in just 15.5 overs. Not only was it the fastest century by an Indian in IPL history, but it also made him the youngest player across all men’s T20 formats to reach the milestone. The feat placed him just behind Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball century, firmly establishing Vaibhav as a talent to watch.
The journey to this record-breaking knock has been anything but ordinary. Bought by Rajasthan Royals at the IPL 2025 mega auction for ₹1.1 crore at the age of 13, Vaibhav had already made his first-class debut for Bihar earlier in January 2024, aged just 12 years and 284 days—a staggering achievement in itself.

Following his remarkable IPL innings, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar took to social media to not only extend his congratulations but also share photos from his earlier meeting with Vaibhav and his father at 1 Anne Marg in 2024. “Vaibhav has become a beacon of hope for Indian cricket,” Kumar posted. “His dedication and performance make every Bihari proud. We wish him continued success and are confident he will bring glory to the country.”

As accolades poured in from all quarters, perhaps the most heartwarming moment came when Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid, visibly emotional, rose from his wheelchair to applaud the young opener. From Ian Bishop to Sachin Tendulkar, cricket legends were unanimous in their praise of Vaibhav’s fearless approach against some of the IPL’s toughest bowlers.

Vaibhav had offered glimpses of his ability in earlier matches—an impressive 34 off 20 balls on debut against Lucknow and a quick 16 in Bengaluru against RCB. But on that magical Monday night in Jaipur, he didn’t just arrive—he announced himself with a thunderous roar, signalling that Indian cricket’s future is in promising hands.
