As Chahal returned to the Punjab Kings’ dressing room, showing off his new bat and playfully doing some shadow practice, Glenn Maxwell quickly chimed in with a hilarious jibe.

“You get subbed out in every game,” Glenn Maxwell quipped, referencing Chahal’s frequent tactical substitutions this season. The room burst into laughter. This moment also brought back memories of Chahal’s first encounter with Dhoni during his debut in Zimbabwe. Speaking in an old interview, Chahal recalled how awestruck he was to meet the iconic captain. “I kept calling him ‘Mahi Sir,’ and finally, he called me aside and said, ‘Call me Mahi, Dhoni, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, or Bhai… but please, not Sir.’”
It was a gesture that spoke volumes about Dhoni’s humility, and one that Chahal has never forgotten — even as he proudly wields a bat gifted by the legend himself.
