While the International Business Times report claimed that Anil had constant touch with the top cops of many Indian states including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Goa and Assam, he left the country with the help of senior police officers.
In May 2015, Anil had denied himself as a bookie and had claimed himself as a punter while the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had conducted a series of the raid against him. His bank accounts were also frozen while a special sessions judge of Ahmedabad issued a non-bailable warrant against him.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption and Security Unit closely monitored him for long times. The alleged bookie had been arrested for thrice under the Gambling and Telegraph Act. ED had also kept a close eye on Anil’s close dealings with bookie Mukesh Sharma.
Anil is not the first man related to cricket betting to flee the country. The IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) owner Vijay Mallya also left the country in March 2016. While Mallya failed to repay the debt worth INR 9,000 crore, he was also accused of betting in IPL.

Since then, Mallya stepped down from the ownership of RCB in 2016 which was handled by his son Siddarth Mallya for a few months. In the IPL history, RCB hasn’t won yet the trophy while they have finished as runners-up for thrice (2009, 2011 and 2016).
