Despite a disappointing season that saw Chennai Super Kings crash out of the IPL 2025 playoff race, batting coach Mike Hussey has insisted that there is no sense of panic in the CSK camp. With just four points from ten games and languishing at the bottom of the table, the five-time champions are out of contention, but Hussey remains focused on long-term positives.

Speaking ahead of CSK’s upcoming clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Hussey acknowledged the team’s shortcomings this season but urged against overreaction. “We’re certainly not going to panic and throw everything out just because it hasn’t gone well this year. But yes, there are definitely a few areas we need to tidy up,” he said.

Mike Hussey emphasised that, despite the results, CSK is not lacking in firepower. He pointed out that the side had come close to winning several tightly contested matches.

“We may be sitting at the bottom of the table, but I genuinely don’t think we’re that far off. This squad has match-winners. In a tournament as competitive as the IPL, three close wins could have seen us in the top four,” he explained.

While the season has been tough, Mike Hussey found solace in the promising performances of younger players like Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis.

“It’s been a great opportunity for some of the younger guys. Hopefully, they can grab these chances and cement their place in the squad for the future,” he said.

As CSK look to finish the season on a high, Hussey hopes a few wins and continued growth from emerging talents can lay the groundwork for a stronger comeback in the next edition. “That would be a fantastic outcome to carry into the future,” he concluded.
