IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will be making a comeback next season and they might be allowed to retain a few players who played for Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions in the last two seasons, going by a proposal wafted by the IPL Governing Council.

During the next month’s workshop, if the move agreed upon by franchises, MS Dhoni will make a return to the CSK squad. As quoted in PTI, IPL GC member said, “We are going to propose minimum 3 retentions – 1 Indian and 2 foreigners. The players, who played for Pune and Gujarat in last two years can be retained by Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. We will place it in front of owners during the workshop next month.”

If the proposal is accepted, then Dhoni, who played for RPS, will be automatically retained by CSK. Ditto for Suresh Raina or Ravindra Jadeja, who played for Gujarat Lions.

When IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla was questioned regarding the same, he replied that the total retentions including Right To Match could be anything between three to five and it will certainly depend upon what majority of the franchises agree.

It was also learned that majority of the franchises want an increase in salary purse from INR 60 cr to Rs INR 75 crore while a few want it to be INR 80 crore. Talking about the same, the official said, “Most of the franchises want the salary purse to Rs 75 crore. I guess it would be done.”
