Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Daniel Vettori has admitted that his team hasn’t been able to produce cohesive performances in IPL 2025. With just three wins from nine matches and six defeats weighing heavily on their playoff chances, the 2016 champions now face a steep climb—they must win all five of their remaining games to keep their hopes alive.

Following their recent win over Chennai Super Kings, the SRH management opted to give the squad a brief break, sending the players on a short getaway to the Maldives. The idea was to allow the team to regroup mentally ahead of a crucial clash against the Gujarat Titans, set to take place on Friday, May 2, at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

In the pre-match press conference, Daniel Vettori didn’t mince words. “We haven’t been able to stitch together a complete performance,” he said. “In almost every game, we’ve faltered in at least one department—batting, bowling, or fielding. The teams that are doing well right now are excelling in all three areas consistently, and that’s where we’ve fallen short.”

Despite his frustration with the team’s inconsistency, Vettori reserved praise for one standout performer—23-year-old Aniket Verma. The young batter, playing his maiden IPL season, has shown promise with 190 runs from nine outings, including a highest score of 74.
“Aniket’s been a real positive. For someone in his first IPL, he’s adapted well and played in a style that’s helped the team. He’s definitely become a key player for us,” Daniel Vettori noted.

The two sides last met at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium earlier this season, where Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans chased down a target of 153 with ease, winning by seven wickets in just 16.4 overs. As the stakes rise, Hyderabad can’t afford another misstep.
