Chennai Super Kings handed Sunrisers Hyderabad their fifth defeat of the season in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League. Winning the game with seven wickets in hand and nine balls to spare shows the sheer dominance of CSK in this game. David Warner didn’t shy away in taking full responsibility for this defeat.
SRH won the toss and decided to bat first at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. They lost Jonny Bairstow quite early but Warner remained unmoved from the other end. He shared a century stand with Manish Pandey but those runs came at a very slow pace. Their 106-run partnership consumed 83 balls and couldn’t give a boost to their team’s total.

Warner himself found the going hard in the middle as he was scoring at the strike rate below 100. He got out in the 18th over after scoring 57 runs for which he took 55 balls.
“I take full responsibility for the way I batted, it was really slow, found a lot of fielders and I got frustrated. The way Manish batted was exceptional. Kane got us to a respectable total, but I take full responsibility as it was a total below par. I probably hit 15 good shots to the fielders, I couldn’t do much about it.
“They are the ones that make or break your innings. It gets frustrating as a batsman when you find the fielders. We had 170 on the board but we couldn’t take powerplay wickets and it’s always tough (to come back) on a good surface like this,” said Warner in the post-match presentation.
Kane Williamson came at the number four and played a cameo of 26 runs in just 10 balls. Kedar Jadhav also scored 12 runs in four balls to take the final score to 171/3 in 20 overs.
Warner revealed about his team’s strategy to send Williamson down at number four. “He (Kane) was going to bat four no matter what, that’s where he bats, that is his job, just that I soaked up too many balls,” he added.
CSK won the match comfortably with the help of fifties from Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad. The CSK openers shared 129 runs for the opening wicket in 13 overs, which took the game away from SRH’s reach.

“Their two openers batted really well, but we fought well in the end. Felt like you could squeeze a bit after those wickets but they were always ahead in the game,” Warner concluded while saying.
SRH has managed to win only a single game so far in the IPL 2021 and are reeling at the bottom of the points table. They will face Rajasthan Royals in their next game on Sunday.
