Chennai Super Kings batter Dewald Brevis has lavished praise on young sensation Ayush Mhatre, describing him as a “special” talent following his impressive performances in IPL 2026. Brevis also highlighted the renewed energy within the CSK camp, which has played a key role in their turnaround after a slow start to the season.

After losing their first three matches, CSK have bounced back strongly with consecutive wins, and Mhatre has been central to that revival. The young batter has brought intent and fearlessness to the top order, scoring 171 runs at a striking rate of 171, including two crucial half-centuries. His aggressive approach has not only boosted CSK’s scoring rate but also lifted the overall mood in the dressing room.
“He is just special. He is young, and he plays his natural game,” Dewald Brevis said. “There’s a lovely spark in the team right now, and it’s coming from everyone — the players, the management, all of us together.”

The South African youngster believes Mhatre’s biggest strength lies in his simplicity and clarity at the crease. “My advice to him would be to stay true to himself. Just enjoy the game and keep playing the way he is. Cricket will always have ups and downs, but the way he reacts ball by ball is brilliant. He knows where to hit and backs his instincts,” Brevis added.

Brevis himself has added depth to the CSK batting lineup after returning from a side strain that kept him out earlier in the tournament. Now back in rhythm, he is keen to make up for lost time.
“I feel great to be back — diving on the field, swinging freely and getting that match feel again. It wasn’t easy being out injured, so getting some runs under my belt really helps with confidence,” he said.

After missing out against the Delhi Capitals, Dewald Brevis made an impact with a brisk 41 off 29 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders, contributing to CSK’s 32-run win. With Mhatre in top form and Brevis finding his groove, CSK’s batting looks far more balanced as they prepare for their next challenge against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
