Glenn Maxwell’s struggles with the bat continued in IPL 2025 as he endured yet another disappointing outing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens. Returning to the PBKS playing XI after being dropped, Maxwell was expected to make a strong statement, but his poor form haunted him once again.

Walking in at number four, Maxwell never looked settled. From the outset, he appeared uncertain, trying a variety of unconvincing strokes that only added pressure on his partner, skipper Shreyas Iyer. For a moment, it seemed Maxwell might find some rhythm when he played a reverse sweep for a boundary. However, that hope quickly faded.

The Australian all-rounder’s brief stay at the crease was cut short by Varun Chakravarthy, who once again proved to be Maxwell’s nemesis. Chakravarthy bowled a flat, skidding delivery that rushed onto Maxwell, who made room to cut but missed it completely. The ball crashed into the top of the off-stump, leaving Maxwell visibly frustrated as he trudged back after scoring just 7 runs.

Glenn Maxwell’s returns this season have been alarming, with scores of 0, 30, 1, 3, 7, and now 7, highlighting his continued struggle for consistency. His record against Chakravarthy is particularly grim—across eight IPL innings, Maxwell has scored only 50 runs against the mystery spinner at an average of just 10, with Chakravarthy dismissing him five times.
