Irfan Pathan, former India Cricketer and one of the most exciting talents in World Cricket when at the top of his game, has been roped in by the Gujarat Lions as a replacement for the injured Dwayne Bravo. Dwayne Bravo had picked up a severe hamstring injury back in December and has been recuperating ever since. There were doubts about the availability of the West Indian, one of the best allrounders in T20, but Gujarat Lions persisted with him and wanted to take their chances, considering how fantastic the allrounder has been so far in the league. With Bravo finally officially ruled out of the tournament, Gujarat Lions had a chance to rope someone in as a replacement.
The other day, CricShots had mentioned that Irfan Pathan could be a possible replacement for the West Indian allrounder. Irfan Pathan, former India Cricketer, who once bewitched World Cricket with his impeccable swinging abilities, has been out of International Cricket for a pretty long time, but has had a wonderful last domestic season. He was particularly very handy with the ball, bowling inspiring spells consistently. With the bat, too, he scored quite a few important knocks, leading his side to victories.
The Gujarat side has had a horrendous first half of the season, having lost five of their seven games. They now need to win at least six of their next seven, to make it to the semi-finals of the tournament, for which, they need a turnaround of sorts. Irfan Pathan, with his astute bowling abilities and handy batting, will yield Gujarat just the right (and much-needed) balance. We hope Irfan Pathan, once one of the most exciting talents in World Cricket, will find his rhythm and create an immediate impact on the tournament. As far as our opinion is concerned, he is one of the most deserving candidates.
