Sri Lanka is locking horns with Afghanistan in the ongoing match Super 12 clash of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Gabba in Brisbane. The Lankan Lions were asked to bowl first by the Mohammad Nabi-led side and they would hope to pull off a victory in their final two fixtures against Afghanistan and England.

During the Afghanistan batting innings, Gulbadin Naib, who came in as the replacement of the injured Hazratullah Zazai after a groin injury he picked up, ran out by the Lankan side after he ‘slipped’ while returning back to the crease.

In the video, skipper Mohammad Nabi ventured out of the crease in order to complete a run and was looking for the second one. However, present at the other end, Naib went forward for the second run but was stopped by his skipper because of the fielder (Pathum Nissanka) being present just close by. What followed next was Nissanka making a quick throw to the keeper and Naib was run out swiftly after he slipped while making an attempt to get back to the crease.

Here i the video of the dismissal:

Sri Lanka has a damaged net run rate of negative 0.890 and is left with just a couple of matches including the ongoing match against Afghanistan. The side stands second last in the points table of Group 1 with just a couple of points and will need to win both their fixtures to have some hopes of qualifying for the last four.

While they will only manage to earn four more points off their two fixtures if they manage to win, it may not be enough for the side to get ahead in the tournament considering heavyweights New Zealand, Australia and England are better placed than the Lankan Lions.

The Dasun Shanaka-led side is dependent on the results of other fixtures but will first need to win their remaining two games to keep hopes alive. It remains to be seen if they can somehow get past to the final four with the tricky scenarios in place.
