“Tough to digest the fact that I will miss out on the remaining part of the World Cup. I’ll be with the team, in spirit, cheering them on every ball of every game. Thanks for all the wishes, the love, and the support has been incredible. This team is special and I’m sure we’ll make everyone proud. Love, always, HP,” Hardik Pandya tweeted.

Pandya sustained the injury while bowling against Bangladesh on October 19 and was subsequently ruled out of the matches against New Zealand and England. He was expected to be fit for the knockout stages but has failed to recover in time. Hardik Pandya is an integral part of the Indian team’s balance as a seam-bowling all-rounder. He has picked up five wickets from four matches in the tournament, while batting only once in India’s campaign opener against Australia in Chennai..

His absence will be a major blow to India’s chances of winning the World Cup. However, the team has a number of other talented all-rounders in its ranks, such as Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, and Shardul Thakur. They will be hoping that one of these players can step up and fill the void left by Pandya’s absence.

India made two changes to their line-up after Hardik’s injury. They brought in Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav in the team, and opted to bench Shardul Thakur from the Indian side.

The Indian team has been in riveting form despite Pandya’s injury. India have already qualified for the semi-final of the tournament and are the only team that are undefeated so far. India have won seven matches in a row and next face South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
